|The Clubs History:|
The Club was formed in 1992, its members deriving two earlier indoor bowls groups – the over 50’s and the ‘Friday Evening’ Clubs. The absence of any Flat Green surface within the Borough necessitated the use of Grown Green for a couple of years at the Dell, Brockmoor and the King George V Park, Wordsley, and latterly at Hadden Hill, Halesowen.
In the winter of 1993/1994 the Dudley Local Authority converted two former tennis courts for flat green bowling. The intervening years have reduced the effects of the grounds former use and produced the present, improved surface, which compares favourably to many others.
The Club lacked any of the usual amenities until a few years ago when it acquired a new portacabin/clubhouse, and, electricity. Members can now at least shelter from the vagaries of the weather.
The Club’s continuing problem is that the green is in the old walled area of a public park governed by deed of covenant prohibiting ball games on Sundays. Perforce, Sunday matches must be played ‘away’. This is a friendly, mixed membership Club providing for those wishing to play competitively and those who preference is largely social
